Networking – Fellowship – Service – Fun

Well lo and behold, August is already upon us and it turns out that it is Rotary Membership and Retention Month; although this should be our focus every month don’t you think.  So why do folks join Rotary and then decide to stay with their Club?  Well, take a peek at the four words at the top of this little missive.

Networking – is not a dirty word in Rotary.  In fact just the opposite is true; Rotary was founded on the idea of Networking and we should be continuing that custom.  There is, after all, a difference between representing your business and promoting your business; and we should all be representing our respective businesses proudly.

Fellowship – is another reason Rotary was formed.  Paul Harris was a lonely lawyer (to my attorney friends: note the absence of easy cheap shots here) in a big town and was seeking friendship and professional acquaintance.  He found it with Sylvester Schiele, Gus Loehr, and Hiram Shorey.  And the rest, as they say, is history.

Service – although Rotary International is not a Service organization by charter we are an Association of Rotary Clubs and those 34,000 RCs do a heck of a job with community and international Service projects which span the spectrum in nature.

Fun – should be self-explanatory.  If you are not having Fun in one way or another with a particular Rotary project or event, chances are there may be something missing.

And there you have it; why Rotary will continue to be Bigger, Better, and Bolder.

Ciao,

DRM
