The Paul Harris Society of The Rotary Foundation recognizes those Rotarians who give $1,000 or more each year to the Annual Programs Fund of the Foundation.
The initiative, which was started in 1999 in District 5340 in the San Diego area, quickly spread and now over 150 districts recognize these very special Rotarians. The Trustees of The Rotary Foundation approved the program for global implementation.
Past District Governor Owen Freed launched Paul Harris Society recognition in District 6990 in Rotary Year 2005-2006 under the local guidance of then District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair PDG Robin Shelley. In that first year, 15 Rotarians made the commitment which provided a major boost to the year’s Annual Programs Fund.
Certainly, not everyone can elect to make such a gift each year. But if you can, think of the tremendous impact that such giving will have on Foundation Programs and projects. For questions regarding the Paul Harris Society in District 6990 contact PDG Jack Martin, who has agreed to carry forth the effort to recruit more Rotarians into the Paul Harris Society in this Rotary year.
